Las hermosas ilustraciones con collage de Lydia Monks le han hecho ganar muchos seguidores. Lydia nació en Surrey y estudió Ilustración en la Universidad de Kingston. Después de trabajar como ilustradora freelance para varios periódicos, decidió empezar a hacer libros para niños. Su primer libro, OJALÁ FUERA UN PERRO, ganó el Premio de Bronce Smarties en 1999. Desde entonces, ha trabajado en más de cuarenta títulos. Actualmente, vive y trabaja en Sheffield con su esposo, también ilustrador, y su hija.
